What is the best way to shop for remodeling services?
Shopping for home remodeling is not like shopping for a car; you just can’t test drive different models and compare the features. That said, our planning process creates a “shopping” experience for you. We present plan options to help you understand what’s possible in your home. Our 3D models let you “test drive” how the space may look and feel. And, our online portal lets you see the details, options and costs, so you will be able to compare and make great “shopping” decisions.
How will I know what my project will cost?
We know you need good information to make good decisions, and cost is one of those factors. During our initial conversations we will talk with you about the scale of your project and how it compares to other, similar projects. Then, in our planning process, you will receive a budget to accompany preliminary designs. Finally, you will receive a bid-priced contract defining exactly what your final design will cost.

What is included in my project?
Since we specialize in personalizing your remodeling experience and solutions, we include exactly what you want us to include. Your Design Specialist will build the details of your project within the online portal. You will see all of the elements, features and details in easy-to-understand language. Selections — your choices for fixtures and finishes — are clearly laid out with associated allowance amounts. Who should I talk to on the team?
There will be many people working on your project: Bluestem Construction’s staff, subcontractors and specialty installers. It could be confusing who to talk to or ask questions of. During the design and planning period, your main point of contact will be your project’s Design Specialist.
You will be introduced to your Project Lead at the pre-construction walkthrough.
Once construction begins, your project’s Design Specialist stays in contact to make sure things go as planned, but your Project Lead will become your first point of contact.
How do I communicate with the Bluestem Team?
Telephone, text and email are all great communication methods. But, with the magic of our online portal, questions posted there will be seen by the entire project team, ensuring you are taken care of right away! That is the best way to stay in touch.

If I communicate, when will I hear back?
It is our goal to answer all calls within one business day, usually faster if your project is under construction. Portal messages and e-mail sometimes require two business days if we are in the field. For more urgent items, please call. For less urgent items, post a message.
How many projects do you work on at once?
Typically, your project team will be working on 3-4 projects like yours at a time.
Will the cost of my project change?
Your bid-priced construction contract is accompanied by a detailed scope of work and construction plan set. This contract is our commitment to you to complete the project at the price quoted.
The cost only changes for one of the following 3 reasons: You add something to the scope of the project, there is a hidden or unforeseen condition (like rotted walls) not knowable with a typical inspection, or you select items in excess of your allowances.
Your online portal tracks your allowance spending, change orders and payments, so there is never a nasty surprise about costs or payments. You stay in control.
What can I expect regarding the project schedule?
Our production team is committed to driving your project forward in the most efficient way possible, but rushed projects limit quality. One excellent way to help the building process proceed smoothly is to have the planning complete before construction begins. Between the construction contract and the beginning of construction activities — the pre-construction period — we will concentrate on helping you make final decisions and on shopping and selections. Sometimes waiting to start can make the entire process better. You will have a schedule of milestones in your online portal and you can watch as they get completed.
What causes schedule changes?
The biggest cause of schedule adjustments is change to the plan or scope of the work from client additions or unforeseen conditions.
During pre-construction, we create a detailed plan coordinating the many players in your project. Occasionally, factors such as weather, delays in manufacturing, or inspection backlogs cause changes or delays. We never want delays, but if they happen, we will communicate as soon as we find out.
